  • National textile and clothing exports decreased by 8.3% year-on-year in the first half of the year

    Date:2023-07-18

According to today's statistics from the General Administration of Customs, in the first half of this year, China's textile and clothing exports reached 142.68 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 8.3% (a year-on-year decrease of 1.9% in RMB), an increase of 1.6 percentage points compared to the first quarter. Among them, textile exports reached 67.7 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 10.9% (a year-on-year decrease of 4.5% in RMB); Clothing exports reached 74.98 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 5.9% (a year-on-year increase of 0.7% in RMB).

Since the second quarter of this year, the industry's foreign trade situation has been relatively severe. In April, the year-on-year growth rate of China's textile and clothing exports significantly slowed down, and fell into a negative growth range in May. In June, China's textile and clothing exports to the world reached 26.99 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 12.7% (a year-on-year decrease of 8.8% in RMB), with a slight narrowing compared to the previous month. Among them, textile exports reached 11.57 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 12.9% (a year-on-year decrease of 9% in RMB); Clothing exports reached 15.42 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 12.5% (a year-on-year decrease of 8.7% in RMB).

Currently, global economic growth is slowing down, and consumer demand in major developed markets such as the United States and Europe is weak, resulting in varying degrees of decline in demand for imported textiles and clothing. According to the United States Department of Commerce, in the first five months of this year, the US textile and clothing imports from the world decreased by 22.6% year on year; According to Eurostat data, from January to April this year, the amount of textile and clothing imported by the EU from the world decreased by 12.1% year on year. Looking ahead to the second half of the year, the total demand in the global retail market still faces significant pressure. On the basis of striving to stabilize and win orders from traditional developed economies, we will deeply explore the trade growth potential of diversified markets.
